چکیده
We revisit the quantitative analysis of ultrafast magneto-acoustic experiment in a freestanding nickel thin film by Kim and Bigot [1] applying our recently proposed approach magnetic acoustic eigenmodes decomposition Vernik et al. [2]. show that application modeling to time-resolved reflectivity measurements allows for determination amplitudes lifetimes standing perpendicular phonon resonances with unprecedented accuracy. The damping is found scale as $\propto\omega^2$ frequencies up 80~GHz peak reach $10^{-3}$. experimentally measured magnetization dynamics different orientations an external field agrees well numerical solutions magneto-elastically driven magnon harmonic oscillators. Symmetry-based selection rules magnon-phonon interactions predicted allow unambiguous discrimination between spatially uniform non-uniform modes, confirmed comparing resonantly enhanced magneto-elastic simultaneously on opposite sides film. Moreover, separation time scales (early) rising (late) decreasing precession provide access (Gilbert) parameters single measurement.

Chain entanglement in thin freestanding polymer films.
When a thin glassy film is strained uniaxially, a shear deformation zone (SDZ) can be observed. The ratio of the thickness of the SDZ to that of the undeformed film is related to the maximum extension ratio, lambda, which depends on the entanglement molecular weight, M(e). We have measured lambda as a function of film thickness in strained freestanding films of polystyrene as a probe of M(e) in...

An optical photobleaching technique has been used to measure the reorientation of dilute probes in freestanding polystyrene films as thin as 14 nm. Temperature-ramping and isothermal anisotropy measurements reveal the existence of two subsets of probe molecules with different dynamics. While the slow subset shows bulk-like dynamics, the more mobile subset reorients within a few hundred seconds ...
متن کاملOn plastic strain recovery in freestanding nanocrystalline metal thin films
In a recent article [J. Rajagopalan, J.H. Han, M.T.A. Saif, Science 315 (2007) 1831–1834], we have reported substantial (50–100%) plastic strain recovery in freestanding nanocrystalline metal films (grain size 50–65 nm) after unloading. The strain recovery was time dependent and thermally activated. Here we model the time evolution of this strain recovery in terms of a thermally activated dislo...
متن کاملHigh-temperature tensile behavior of freestanding Au thin films
The mechanical behavior of freestanding thin sputter-deposited films of Au is studied at temperatures up to 340°C using tensile testing. Films tested at elevated temperatures exhibit a significant decrease in flow stress and stiffness. Furthermore the flow stress decreases with decreasing film thickness, contravening the usual notion that “smaller is stronger”. This behavior is attributed mainl...
متن کاملPlastic deformation of freestanding thin films: Experiments and modeling
Experimental measurements and computational results for the evolution of plastic deformation in freestanding thin films are compared. In the experiments, the stress–strain response of two sets of Cu films is determined in the plane-strain bulge test. One set of samples consists of electroplated Cu films, while the other set is sputter-deposited. Unpassivated films, films passivated on one side ...
